  1. What do MLI International Schools do?

MLI International Schools is one of the leading providers of EFL throughout Ireland and the UK. Our ACELS and British Council accredited residential and host family courses offer an integrated package of English language lessons and activities/excursions to over 5000 teenagers annually during June, July and August. Students are aged between 10 and 18 years old and stay with us for 2, 3 or 4 weeks.

  2.  What are the benefits of working for MLI International Schools?

We are accredited by ACELS as well as the British Council and have built up a reputation for high standards of language tuition and student welfare. We offer competitive salaries and strong support for all staff, particularly newly-qualified teachers.

  3.  When do you need staff?

We recruit for June, July and August. The greatest demand is during July.

  4. What tax forms do I need to complete?

IRL: All staff must inform us of their PPS Number

UK: All Staff must bring in a current P45. If you don't have one of these, you should complete a P46 (obtainable from the Centre Manager). Staff in full-time education may complete a P38 form.

For staff arriving in the UK (form P86) and when leaving the country (form P85). These enable the Inland Revenue to calculate the tax you should pay and determine how much rebate you may be entitled to.

  5.  Do MLI International Schools pay travel costs?

I'm afraid travel to your centre is not paid. However, if you are required to move centres, we will, of course reimburse your travel expenses.

  6. I've got an important family function on the 18th July. Can I have time off?

No problem. 1 or 2 days off for weddings, graduation ceremonies are fine. Please, even though this may have been discussed at interview, let your manager know what time off you need as soon as you arrive at the centre.

  7. I'm not available for the entire summer. Can I still apply?

Yes, student numbers peak in mid-July and so we can sometimes offer shorter term contracts to cover these busy periods. We cannot offer positions to anyone only available in August.

  8. Do I need a work permit?

If you are not a citizen of the European Union, you MUST have a work permit to work in Ireland and the UK. Due to the short-term nature of our contracts, we are unable to provide work permits or sponsor work permit applications for applicants.

If you already hold the necessary documentation, please state this in your application. You will be asked to provide a copy of your visa, passport or work permit befroe your application can be considered further.

  9. Where are the MLI International Schools Summer centres?

We have centres thorughout Ireland and the UK. Click here for the location and details of all our centres.

  10. I've just qualified as a teacher and don't have much experience. Can I apply?

Each year we take on a number of newly qualified teachers offering plenty of support to teaching staff through a coherent syllabus and pre-designed materials to reduce preparation time. At all centres there is an experienced Director of Studies who will offer guidance and suggestions.

Irish SQT applicants must hold: H. Dip. Ed. / P.G.D.E. with an ACELS recognised TEFL Cert

British QTS applicants must hold: P.G.C.E. with British Council recognised TELF Cert / English / Modern Languages

  11. What happens once you have received my application?

We will contact you by phone or email within two weeks of receiving your application and commence the application process.

  12. Do I have to attend any training sessions?

All applicants are required to attend a training weekend in May/June. Job offers are subject to successful participation in the weekend.

  13. Can I choose to be residential or non-residential?

All Centre Managers and Activity Coordinators are residential (IRL & UK). A limited number of DOS (UK only),  Teachers (UK only) and Activity Leader (IRL & UK) positions are residential.

  14. What is included in residential positions?

Accommodation and full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is provided for all residential staff. Bed linen is also provided but you should bring your own towels.

  15. Will I have to work in the evening and at weekends?

Yes. Centre Managers manage groups arriving and departing at irregular times. All activity staff will have to supervise and lead evening and weekend activities. Normally they finish about 22.30.

  16. Do I get any free time?

You should organise your time and coordinate with other staff to work 6 days per week but the days and hours are not fixed and can vary from week to week.
